WebJul 1, 2013 · The effects of aging on the respiratory system are many, diverse, complex and often interactive. There is considerable variability in what might be defined as normal respiratory function in the elderly (Zeleznik, 2003), and it can sometimes be difficult to distinguish it from age-related comorbidity. WebRespiratory system diseases in the elderly are a complex medical problem. They are difficult to diagnose owing to the presence of concomitant diseases. A careful diagnostic process performed in patients aged ≥65 years should contribute to increased detectability of the diseases under discussion, and therefore to improved therapeutic effects.
