Intron extron

An intron is any nucleotide sequence within a gene that is not expressed or operative in the final RNA product. The word intron is derived from the term intragenic region, i.e. a region inside a gene. The term intron refers to both the DNA sequence within a gene and the corresponding RNA sequence in RNA transcripts. The non-intron sequences that become joined by this RNA processing to form the mature RNA are called exons. Webof each extracted intron (only used if "intron" is included in featureType). joinOverlappingIntrons Logical scalar indicating whether two introns that overlap (after adding the flanking sequences) should be joined into one feature. collapseIntronsByGene Logical scalar indicating whether to collapse overlapping intron ranges by gene after ...

Exons are nucleotide sequences in DNA and RNA that are conserved in the creation of mature RNA. The process by which DNA is used as a template to create mRNA is called transcription. mRNA then works in conjunction with ribosomes and transfer RNA (tRNA), both present in the cytoplasm, to create proteins in a … See more Introns are nucleotide sequences in DNA and RNA that do not directly code for proteins, and are removed during the precursor messenger RNA (pre-mRNA) stage of maturation of mRNA by RNA splicing. Introns can … See more RNA splicing is the method by which pre-mRNA is made into mature mRNA, by removal of introns and joining together of exons. Several methods of splicing exist, depending on the organism, type of RNA or intron structure, … See more Alternative splicing refers to the way that different combinations of exons can be joined together, resulting in a single gene coding for multiple proteins.
