Gear makes a massive difference. A single point of damage prevented by the armor can be the difference between losing a card or not. Also, keep in mind a lot of the gear can be "refreshed" after a long rest (like this armour). So you will use that piece of kit 3-5 times per scenario.

Test server will tell you that 90ql chain will reduce damage by 55% (compared to wearing no armor) and 90ql studded will reduce damage by 50%. Not a huge difference, but it's still noticable.
