I've seen it written in many places that the oil holes in the cam bearings should always be aligned with the vertical passage running down to the mains. Intuitively, this does not make much sense to me, as there is a full groove behind that oil hole in the cam bearing. WebDec 30, 2016 · Goatroper2 knows the correct way to install sbc cam bearings. Chevy engine manuals always have a paragraph that says to line up the oil holes with the holes in the block. That paragraph is a copy from the six cylinder section and is incorrect for the sbc. There are not any oil holes in the block to line the cam bearings up to.

The chaincase lube can work it's way in the bearings, but the seals keep the debris from the chain out. All the shit that sticks to the magnet would be going through the bearing.
